Conclusion - Martha N. - Damita W.

In 1800, the United States was home to 5.3 million people living in sixteen states. By 1900, the United States was home to 76 million people in forty-five states and the U.S. had control over the land and people of Alaska, Hawaiian and Samoan Islands, the Philippines, Guam, Puerto Rico, and Cuba.  These holdings show how the United States had a growing willingness to extend its influences and economic reaches to distant countries, sometimes by military force if necessary.
